A woodworking shop in Kiel caught fire yesterday morning.
It is being reported that the Kiel Fire Department was called to the shop at 707 6th Street just prior to 4:00 a.m. when a witness saw flames coming from a basement window.
When crews arrived, they attempted to battle the basement fire from inside the structure but had to back out as the fire burned its way through the door.
There were eventually able to extinguish the blaze, but not before it caused extensive damage to the building.
A dollar estimate has not yet been made available, while the cause remains under investigation.
The Kiel Fire Department was assisted by fire crews from Chilton, Elkhart, New Holstein, and St. Anna, as well as Kiel Ambulance and Police.
